IROWG-10 Workshop Notes and Reminders

Dear Colleagues,

We would like to share a few notes and reminders regarding the COSMIC/JCSDA Workshop and IROWG-10 to be held in Boulder, Colorado from September 12-18, 2024.

  • Abstract submission is open and will close on May 31, 2024 (US Mountain Time). We look forward to your submissions. We will not be extending the deadline so please plan to submit your abstract by May 31.

  • Lodging reservations at negotiated conference rates may be made until August 14, 2023. We recommend making your arrangements early.

  • Registration is open and closes August 23, 2024.

ROMEX Workshop abstract submission deadline is extended to 27 March 2024

Dear all,

If you haven’t yet submitted your abstract to the ROMEX Workshop but would like to do so, please proceed. The new deadline is 27 March 2024 (next Wednesday). Following this, we will assemble the meeting agenda. We are making efforts to accommodate all proposed presentations, so please do not hesitate to reserve your time for the workshop. If you are not presenting, you may continue to register for the workshop up to 8 April 2024.

IROWG-10 Workshop Open for abstract submission

Dear IROWG,

We are pleased to announce that the COSMIC / JCSDA Workshop and IROWG 2024 are now open for abstract submission. The IROWG 2024 is the 10th Workshop of the International Radio Occultation Working Group (IROWG-10), which presents a valuable opportunity for the community to showcase and discuss the latest scientific, technical, and programmatic advancements in the field. This distinguished event is proudly hosted by UCAR/COSMIC and JCSDA. It will take place in Boulder, Colorado, situated on the campus of UCAR. We look forward to your participation in this collaborative endeavor that aims to contribute significantly to the progress of GNSS remote sensing and other relevant research and its applications.

ROMEX workshop registration open

Dear ROMEX community,

You are cordially invited to attend the IROWG ROMEX Workshop on 17-19 April 2024 at EUMETSAT HQ in Darmstadt, Germany. The ROMEX workshop seeks presentations in the following areas:

  • Status and plans of relevant RO missions
  • ROMEX RO data processing and validation of ROMEX data
  • Reports on ROMEX applications and studies
  • Other relevant developments and research pertaining to ROMEX

Additionally, the workshop will facilitate discussions regarding data processing, experimental design, and NWP impact studies, as well as develop the ROMEX intermediate report (required for the CGMS working group meeting the following week) and draft follow-up plans.

The first two days of the meeting will consist of presentations and discussions, and the last day will include a plenary discussion regarding ROMEX and the finalization of the report. We plan to have full-day meetings for the first two days (Wednesday and Thursday, 17-18 April). The Friday meeting (19 April) will end by noon followed by lunch.

Complimentary lunches will be provided at EUMETSAT for three days. There will be an offsite group dinner on Wednesday, 17 April 2024. Please plan to join us as well. We strongly recommend in-person participation, though remote access will be provided. A detailed agenda will be released following the close of registration.

Save the dates for IROWG ROMEX Workshop, April 17-19, 2024, Darmstadt, Germany

Dear all, 

We are going to have the ROMEX Workshop on April 17-19, 2024, a hybrid meeting hosted at EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany.  Currently, EUMETSAT is working on logistic arrangements. The registration plans to open in Jan, 2024. Additional information about hotel booking, transportation, etc. will be provided then as well. 
 
We are currently planning for no registration fees.

Dear ROMEX working group,

Please mark your calendars for the ROMEX Workshop on April 17-19, 2024, a hybrid meeting hosted at EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany. After our recent ROMEX experimental design meeting, we agreed a formal meeting to discuss results together in a forum would be beneficial. EUMETSAT graciously offered to provide meeting space, coffee, lunches and one welcoming reception. We are currently planning for no or modest registration fees.

We’ve strategically chosen these dates to precede the CGMS WGII meeting (week of April 22), allowing us to present our findings and follow-up plans to the CGMS the following week.

Your participation either way is key, and we’re eager to gauge the level of interest in either in person or virtual participation. All ROMEX members are strongly recommended to participate. Please help us shape the workshop by taking a quick survey. Your input is valuable!

CGMS-51 Plenary IROWG presentation available online

The CGMS-51 plenary session was held on 26-28 June 2023 in Tokyo, Japan. The meeting was open to CGMS members, observers and on invitation only. Uli presented IROWG recommendations as part of the CGMS-WG II presentations. The presentation has been uploaded to the IROWG webpage (under documents).

ROMEX: Data Terms and Conditions, NASA-spire data, and some other updates

Dear ROMEX working group,

I’m sending this email to update you since our last meeting in May. We will not have a June meeting since data is still being processed. However, this email will give you some information you have sought.

The Terms and Conditions for using ROMEX data are finalized and are ready to be signed. If you would like to use ROMEX data, please sign the document. This applies to data providers and processing centers and anybody else if you touch data beyond those from your organization.

The document (Terms and Conditions) is in the ROMEX Google folder (restricted to ROMEX participants only). Or you can use the document (pdf) on the IROWG webpage. We accept signatures by an organization or an individual. If an organization signs the letter, please indicate the POC (point of contact) for this organization. This POC will be responsible for receiving the password for the data FTP later. Also, this person will be contacted if there is a violation of the Terms and Conditions during ROMEX. If no POC is identified explicitly, we’ll contact the person who sent in the signature.

News about data:
A big THANK YOU to NASA and Spire! Now NASA-Spire data is available to us. So we are going to have extra data beyond what we already have. We will have about 35000-40000 profiles daily for the ROMEX testing period. Exact data counts will be available later.
What is going on now:
EUMETSAT is collecting data and processing them as necessary. Now EUMETSAT has received data from UCAR, NOAA, EUMETSAT, CMA, Yunyao, PlanetIQ, and GeoOptics and is working to receive data from Spire and Tianmu currently.
The steering committee just had a meeting (a couple of hours ago) with ROMSAF (Thanks to Kent and Santi) to finalize the data distribution procedure. You need to sign the Terms and Conditions, and, once ready, ROMSAF will give you a password to access some website/server. We are going to have some tests before finalizing the procedure.
The data link will be posted to the IROWG-ROMEX webpage later as well.
